The 3rd team were given a good pasting at Yarm on Sunday.

Unreliable Smith & Irresponsible Brown were to the fore as a weakened side tried gamely, but were comfortably 2nd against against a more than useful outfit at this level.

Yarm won the toss & chose to bat (though Blackers led the lads to believe he'd won one) and it was Dan Routledge who made the early breakthrough in what was a very encouraging (and a tad unlucky) spell. Aldo was accurate but having one of those days where he couldn't find an edge.

Dickie was introduced after Dan's spell, Aldo swapped and this paid dividends, as 53-1 became 63-4.

This brought together the dangerous big-hitting pair of Shahid & Jones. Aldo was removed to make way for Midg....

...wait a minute!!

Blackers pulled his tactical masterstroke out & put Wardy on "because he'd promised him a bowl"....

Didn't turn out to be that expensive & he even managed to run out Shahid who was looking dangerous.

With the mini-onslaught from those two, Dickie started bowling a Pukka spell. (Pies that is) and the usually bobbins Masud helped himself to one or two gifts on his way to 30 not out, the dangerous Mustafa clagged twenty-odd & Yarm finished on 178-9.

The Blackhall reply is probably best kept to a brief description, Browny's magic one knee losing him his off stump & a tame procession, Nathan Boyes and Dan aside. They at least had a 10-over partnership of 15, the best of the innings. Nathan showed admirable application, a 65minute, 65-ball 12 being the highlight of a fairly miserable Blackhall attempt.

The report is pretty fair and yes I did give Wardy a bowl at a time when I would usually have bowled Midgey. The task was difficult going into the game with the batting lineup we had but with one opener having a still unexplained but truly pathetic contact lens excuse and the other totally letting the side down with irresponsibility the writing was on the wall.

Boots and Gramma were unlucky to go when batting sensibly for the team, I middled a good ball through to the keeper, and we were through to the bare bones. The two positives from the game were as you said the batting of Boyes and the bowling of Routledge, both have been rewarded with selection for the home game on Sunday.

Midgey Bell also started to show signs of his true abilities and Bertie didn't really deserve the slating after bowling well early on but I certainly bowled him too long.

Suffice to say I made my fair share of mistakes but I am new to this captaincy lark and I am sure I will make a few more. Let's hope I learn from my mistakes and a few of the senior players ( you know who you are ) show a little more maturity and give us their "A" game more often.

They looked a lot different to what they did when they used to be on "not the 9o'clock news"! Laughing
