The 3rds picked up a welcome win, comfortably beating a weak Guisborough side.
Blackers maintained his 100% losing record at the toss & the visitors were asked to bat first on pitch where it became increasingly apparent that the top was gone.
Craig Bell & Anth Darby were both bowled cheaply, but Blackers the joined Smith in the partnership which defined the innings, adding 169 in 28 overs.
Smith showed his liking for the Guisborough ground, registering his 2nd century there (101 - 13x4, 2x6) whilst Blackers batted with commendable sense & showed very good shot selection in an innings as good as I have seen him play (82 - 10x4, 3x6). Both fell to consecutive balls in the 42nd over with the score at 210, and it was left to Gramma & Boots to see us to 224-4 after 45, a total that was always likely to be too many.
In reply, once Blackhall got 3 or 4 wickets it was always likely to be a bit of a procession, given the cobbled-together nature of the home side.
Aldo had one of those days where he constantly beat the bat without getting anything, Jerome bowled well & could have had 2 LBWs before finally being given one.
Squint seemed to have trouble with his run up, but showed that knack of bowling wicket taking deliveries, including a beauty to snake back & bowl the twistiest man in Europe, who had blatantly been put off by the "barbaric" behaviour of the Blackhall supporters.
In reality this was one of the funniest exchanges of this, or any other season.
Mr Twist had spent his afternoon behind the stumps moaning at all the young 'uns when they made misfields (and these were proper moans, not Spiff-twists).
Well, whilst he was batting Philly was doing his trim-phone noises & confusing some kids in the nearby nets.
Mr Twist: Here can you stop that
Philly: I'm not doing owt
Mr Twist: It's barbaric (???????)
Philly: I'm sorry
Mr Twist: No you're not
Dickie came on & bowled 2 overs of pap, but got a wicket with a full toss (the last ball of his career apparently), but it was Simon Wellburn who took the bowling plaudits, by taking advantage of the length of the home tail, to claim 4-16 in 4.4 overs. When he got it right it was very good, but he was a touch erratic, which will improve with experience.

Nice to see the juniors taking the wickets after the veterens stole the show with the bat. Do you really think that will be Berties last game??? Well if it is hes been a good servant to Blackhall and a lot of "Blackhallers" could do with showing the same commitment and effort as him. Mind you, he has bowled sh*te this year! _________________ http://www.clubwebsite.co.uk/blackhalloldboys/ |

Turns out that Mr Twisty was none other than Dave Cook, who used to keep for Normanby & Redcar in the 70s & 80s, brother of Geoff Cook.
I saw the name & just assumed it was coincidence rather than the same gadgey. I'm told he's had a hard time of it personally, which might explain things, but he certainly wasn't popular with the younger element of his team. _________________ "Spiff, those BLT sarnies were lovely. Just to add that Gramma must be coming close to the greatest amount of pad rash by a Blackhall player at a single ground, having sat through 43 overs of me & Mossy putting on 268 in 2003 ( I declared on him when I got out)
and another good sesh with them on in Sunday's game. _________________ "Spiff, those BLT sarnies were lovely. I don't like bacon either"

The pads. He sat with them on for 29 overs plus. _________________ "Spiff, those BLT sarnies were lovely. I don't like bacon either"
